Today has been a GREAT DAY! I'm still riding on the joy from being able to take a shower for the first time yesterday since being admitted OVER A MONTH AGO. They were keeping me clean with daily sponge baths (basically wet wipes used over my entire body) and dry shampoo. They also have shower caps you place over your head and wash your hair in bed. Yes, it felt good to have clean hair but also not the same as a shower. So I was over the moon joyous when the therapist it was time for me to take a real shower, with her assistance of course. I am still unable to stand on my own so I sat in a shower chair and was able to wash most of my body. The therapists helped with spots I couldn't reach and washing my hair since I can't raise my arms up just yet.
So, yes, the shower was a highlight. But also, today it seemed like they were really gung ho about getting me unattached from a lot of things. So today I was able to have my feeding tube removed (YES, graduating to eating real food on my own). They also took out the last two of the chest drain tubes which was a HUGE relief.
They also started the process of getting some of the staples removed. I have some pretty impressive cuts from two transplant sites. I have large incisions under my breasts that go from arm pit to arm pit. And I have another incision that goes all the way down my belly then takes a sharp turn to the right, like a huge backwards 'L' shape. And then I have one more large incision in my lower left abdomen just above my groin from the hematoma repair.
